A 3-day journey into Sámi culture and life in Kautokeino

Experience Kautokeino from the inside. On this private three-day journey, you will get an insight into a living Sámi community, where the Sámi language, reindeer herding, culture and traditions remain a natural part of everyday life.

From the moment you land at Alta Airport until it is time to return, Sokki Adventure takes care of your journey. You will be picked up at the airport and driven across the tundra to Kautokeino, where the Sokki family welcomes you. Over the next three days, you will experience different sides of life in Kautokeino, from evenings around the fire, joik and a night in a lavvu to reindeer sledding, stories of reindeer herding and local history.

This is more than a collection of activities. It is a journey that gives you time to experience Kautokeino, meet local people and gain a deeper understanding of the stories, traditions and way of life that have shaped this place.

Day 1

Welcome to Kautokeino

Your journey begins at Alta Airport, where you will be picked up by Sokki Adventure. After a quick meal, the journey continues across the tundra towards Kautokeino.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by the Sokki family. Your first evening is spent around the fire, enjoying traditional bidos, storytelling and joik.

You will spend the night in a traditional lavvu, equipped with mattresses and a wood-burning stove. The accommodation is simple and close to nature, with an outdoor toilet available at the camp.

Day 2

Life in Kautokeino

After breakfast at the camp, the day begins with a guided visit to Juhls Silver Gallery, where you will learn about the history of this unique place and its connection to Kautokeino.

The journey then continues into the world of reindeer herding. You will meet the reindeer, experience reindeer sledding and try traditional Sámi lasso throwing. Along the way, you will hear stories about reindeer herding, Sámi culture and life on the tundra.

The experience continues with a simple lunch and coffee in the lavvu. Afterwards, you will have some free time to explore Kautokeino on your own before checking into comfortable accommodation in Kautokeino and enjoying dinner in the evening.

Day 3

Back to Alta

After breakfast, Sokki Adventure will pick you up and drive you back to Alta Airport. The transfer will be arranged according to your flight departure..
