Fishing, Sámi Culture and Local Food in Ávži

Fishing in Kautokeino

Opplev elva, fisken og historiene fra vidda

Just 10 kilometres outside Kautokeino lies the small village of Ávži, surrounded by rivers, nature and tranquillity. Here, Sokki Adventure invites you to an authentic Sámi nature experience in collaboration with local people who have a deep connection to the area.

The journey begins with a boat ride along the river, allowing you to experience the landscape from the water, just as it has been used for generations. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to fish for trout, perch, whitefish and pike, while hearing stories about the river, the surrounding area and the important role nature has played, and continues to play, in everyday life in the North.

At the destination, a traditional lavvu awaits, where a warm local meal prepared with fish and regional ingredients will be served. Around the campfire, you will learn about Sámi culture, life by the river and how people have lived closely connected to nature for generations.

This is a calm, social and genuine experience, perfect for small groups who want to get closer to both nature and culture.
