Our story
The story of Sokki Adventure begins with the reindeer, and the desire to keep Sámi culture alive. Aslak has always worked with taming reindeer, and what began as a personal journey has grown into something much bigger.
The reindeer we use today for sledding and experiences were originally trained for a very different purpose: they were essential tools for herders, used to carry and pull gear across the winter landscapes..
Now, that age-old tradition is passed on through Sokki Adventure, where Aslak and his guides share not only the reindeer’s role in Sámi life, but also their own stories as herders.
Sokki Adventure was founded to share Sámi lifestyle and knowledge through real, meaningful encounters between people and nature. What started with small local tours has grown into a year-round offering with Sámi reindeer experiences in Kautokeino, from reindeer sledding and lavvu overnight stays, to herding, taming, and cultural storytelling for school groups, kindergartens, and travelers.
We’re also a proud part of the annual Easter Festival in Kautokeino, where we host a traditional reindeer sled race show and work closely with local partners to keep the culture vibrant and alive.
At Sokki Adventure, we aim to share the real thing, the way we live it. This is a place built for encounters that matter.
At Sokki Adventure, the reindeer, the language, and the land aren’t props, they’re the main characters.
Aslak never set out to turn Sokki Adventure into a big tourism machine. On the contrary, he wants to keep it small-scale, personal, and grounded. At the same time, he’s passionate about building something that creates stable jobs for Sámi guides and helps keep the culture alive for the future.
Aslak Sokki
Founder and Managing Director
He’s not only an experienced herder, but also a skilled traditional reindeer racer, competing for years in sled and ski races. He’s especially known for his ability to tame even the wildest reindeer.
After many years working in the municipality and carpentry industry, Aslak took the leap in 2023 to run Sokki Adventure full-time. Guiding and cultural storytelling have become both his profession and his passion.
Aslak is social, humorous, and a gifted communicator, a natural host and storyteller who loves sharing his life, his language, and his Sámi traditions with guests of all ages, including school groups and families.
